Dance Photos with JK
I am beyond excited to share these photos from a shoot with someone I am so grateful to call a teacher, a mentor, and a friend. From the moment I auditioned for grad school 13.5 years ago to now, Jennifer Kayle is someone who has always made me feel valued and seen. As a teacher, she challenged me and pushed me to grow in all the ways my artist’s spirit craved, and as a colleague and friend, I have continued to learn so much from her in the beautiful way she navigates the world.
When JK asked me to do this shoot with her, I was both thrilled and anxious. I wanted to badly to capture the many dimensions of this gorgeous human - her fierceness, her deep compassion, her fantastic sense of humor. I don’t know if I could ever fully capture the nuance of this person, but I am so honored that she invited me to try.
I had a wonderful hour in the future home of the University of Iowa Department of Dance with its newest department chair as we created these images together. Congrats on the new role, JK. I’m so excited to see where your leadership takes this program next!
