There’s a special bond between the partners of band directors. If you are married to a marching band director at a major university, then your family’s schedule revolves around football and pep band and bowl games. Holiday plans can’t be made until after bowl selection. Saturdays in the fall are off limits. I imagine it’s very similar to the life of a coach’s spouse, minus the pressure of winning games.

When we moved to Pennsylvania, Rasa could not have been more warm and welcoming to me, a new Penn State Blue Band Assistant Director’s wife. Her husband, Greg, is the director of the Blue Band, and Eric worked closely with him every day. I loved getting to know Rasa and her family— she is a delightful, funny, and incredibly smart and thoughtful, Greg is focused, determined, and motivating, and their son Deuce is absolutely adorable. When we found out Rasa was pregnant with their second child shortly after Brecken was born, I was so thrilled for her and her family!

We did this shoot in the winter, not long before Baby Issa was born, on the grounds of Penn State, near the Arboretum and, of course, in the Blue Band Building.
