Christmas Card Photos - 2022

Anyone who has spent a lot of time (or maybe even a little time) with five year old boys can probably guess how much “fun” it is to do a photoshoot with them. And it is fun. They are exceptionally silly. They are wildly physical. It is nearly impossible to photograph. And however hard it might be to photograph a five-year-old boy, I promise you it is harder ten times over when you are trying to photograph your own five-year-old boy.

But that’s okay! I truly love the photos that came out of this photoshoot that should have taken ten minutes and took almost an hour. I love the range of photos, how every facet of his personality comes through. He is silly, he is stubborn, he is sweet, he has a fantastic smile and he uses it a lot. Are these shoots sometimes infuriating? Yes, pretty much every single one. I am certain that if a stranger were taking the photos, it would be quite painless, and we would still end up with beautiful images. But I still wouldn’t do it any other way. I love that I get to parent this whole kid, and I love capturing what that looks like, at this moment in time.
